Motif #1
Finally completed the first motif. Its a star pattern from "Tatting Patterns & Designs" by Blomqvist and Persson. The thread, size 20, is a new one thats just come on the market. I loved the colour and the thread too was surprisingly good. A bit softer than the Anchor #20 which is the only other one thats easily available. Its also nice and smooth.
I had some difficulties with the pattern. Haven't tatted for so long that it seemed to take forever to finish. Also made several mistakes some of which had to be taken out, and the others, I just left them there. Picots too gave me quite a bit of trouble as they refused to be the same size. Seems like I need to learn how to use a picot gauge. Not too happy with the quality of my tatting, but hopefully will do much better with the next one.
25 Motifs ChallengeI've decided to join this tatting challenge started by Sharon.
At one point of time I was doing a great deal of tatting during the week and teaching tatting at the week ends. Then I started having problems with my eyes - cataracts followed by detachment of the retina - and I was forced to put away my tatting.
Just as I was gearing up to start teaching again, my mother fell down and hurt her back and broke her wrist. Now she is almost bedridden, needs help to do even the smallest things. At 81 years of age, I'm just grateful it wasn't more serious.
Sharon's challenge, and seeing the response from other tatters has encouraged me to take up the shuttles again. I'm no designer, so I'm going to tat other people's patterns. I have collected quite an assortment of threads through the thread exchanges. I'm going to use as much of it as I can.
Blogging is another new thing that I'm learning from this challenge.
